Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 12
Four of Thame ladies took part in the Senior Ladies Fours on Monday 30th June, Heather Hallchurch, Deirdre Page, Pauline Holmes and Caroline Walker.
It was a very hot morning on the City and County green. 19-19 with one end to play! Amazingly, we scored that vital shot! A really good team effort. The semi-final will be on Sunday 6th July at Kidlington, 9.15 a m. Heather thanks again the loyal supporters.
On Tuesday July 1st The ladies from Watlington arrived at the clubhouse to play Thame Ladies on what was forecast to be the hottest day of the year. The captains decided that the match would go ahead but with reduced ends and plenty of water available.
There were three teams: two triples and a pairs. A close eye was kept on the members as we played as it was very hot although somewhat relieved by a cool breeze.
The pairs with Gini Williams and Pauline Holmes found it hard going but, in the end, won by one point. One of the triple teams consisting of June Greene, Marion Keal and skip, Dierdre Page struggled with the heat but managed a creditable draw.
The other triple with Jan Sargeant, Philippa Feltham and skip Heather Hallchurch lost to a very accomplished trio. The overall score was 28 Thame 39 Watlington. Captain Pauline Holmes said ‘Well done ladies! Tea and biscuits afterwards revived spirits and the afternoon ended with friendly chat and laughs. We will play Watlington again in four weeks’ time when we hope to improve our scores’.
Thame’s men were beaten again on Thursday 3rd July, by the League leaders Carterton B who ran out 79 shots to 45. Thame had a winning rink skipped by David White who finished 20 – 11. Thame remain bottom of the League.
