Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 6
Thame Men’s League team took on Burford at home on Thursday 22nd May in the second of their Oxfordshire League matches and again suffered a heavy defeat. This time the final score was 70 shots to 53 and without any winning rink they gave away the full six league points. They have now played the top two sides in Division 3 and will be hopeful of a better result on 29th May when they play Woodstock away.
Also on 22nd May, Thame Ladies played the rearranged match against South Oxford that was originally scheduled for the 15th of May, when they were not able to get a full team.
The green played very well on a mainly sunny day but, unfortunately, we were beaten on 2 rinks by South Oxford who scored 54 to Thame 41. Our 2 rinks started to catch up but were not quite able to before the end of the match, but a very good try ladies! The winning rink was Diane Mackriell, Deirdre Page & Jill Brooks (the match Captain) who had a very close game with a score of 18 - 14. Well done to all and a very enjoyable match.
Heather Hallchurch & Deirdre Page played the first round of the Oxfordshire County Pairs on the 16th May and won 19-11 against City & County. Then on the 19th May, Heather, Deirdre & Frances Goodyear played the first round of the County Triples and won 20-5 again against City & County.
The next round of the pairs was played on 23rd May, but unfortunately Heather and Deirdre lost a close game, to Banbury Central who won 18-13.
Captain Ken King had a good friendly match on Saturday 24th May at Long Crendon. Thanks to the members who played and special thanks to those who came to support us. Although we lost the overall match 76 shots to 55, it was extremely gratifying to win the rinks 3 to 2. Our top winning rink was number 3 Ian Griffiths, Barry Green and Dave Holland 15 shots to 10. The other winning rinks were 1 and 2 very ably supported by our new members Trevor Watkins on 1 and Wendy Mannix on rink 2.
