Match Reports

Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 1

Thame started the 2025 season with a home match against Princes Risborough on Wednesday 23 April and Captain Colin French submitted this match report. ‘We welcomed captain Tony and his team, for what was a first match for both sides. The game started promptly with five enthusiastic triples playing; the weather was dry but chilly with the occasional burst of sun. The green looked superb and everyone played as per the greenkeepers request, with basically the mat up and a shorter jack. This also helped playing the eighteen ends. Thame in general, won the match, winning three and drawing one rink but unfortunately losing one rink by a large enough margin (my rink) to give the match to Risborough, the score ending at Thame 79, Risborough 97. Our best rink was rink 4 led by Frances Goodyear, ably assisted by Geoff Roynon and Philippa Feltham.

All in all, everyone playing enjoyed the afternoon, many thanks to Sandra and the ladies for setting up in the kitchen, and to Ken Lewis for looking after the bar, and lastly but not least the green team who diligently mowed the lawn in the morning after the rain leaving it in superb condition. Many thanks also to members who came to watch I hope you enjoyed the games.’

On Saturday 26 April, Captain Ken King, took his team to Maidenhead.

‘We opened our Saturday friendly fixture season with a trip to Maidenhead Thicket. Weather was great and the playing surface was excellent. Thanks to all the members who made themselves available for this match.

The result was a good one for Thame winning 3 rinks to 2, taking overall shots 82 to 71.

Congratulations to rink 5 Tony Battaglia, Jill Brooks and John Holmes top rink scoring 23 to 11 closely followed by rink 2 with a win 20 to 9 Ian Griffiths, Pauline Holmes and Jamie Challoner.’
