Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 2
On Tuesday 29th April, Thame played at home to Waddesdon. Captain Colin French writes ‘We welcomed captain Peter and his team and got off to a prompt start on a glorious sunny day, so good, one would have thought we were playing midsummer. As per last week we were playing to the greenkeepers request.
The match involved 5 triples and again we fell to the opposition, so much so that we lost all matches, the final result being Thame 62 shots to Waddesdon’s 86 shots. Our best team on rink1 valiantly fought the latter ends to come within 1 shot, well done Tony Battaglia, Roger Blackburn and John Wilkinson.
Our thanks to Sandra, Philippa and Pauline for looking after the teas, Terri for running the bar, the greenkeeping team for supplying another great green which all agreed played very well, and last but not least all members for helping to tidy away and making the afternoon a pleasure to be part of it.’
On Friday 2nd May, Jill Brooks captained the Thame Ladies in a home match against Princes Risborough. ‘On a beautiful sunny day and a brilliant green Thame ladies played their first match of the season against Princes Risborough and won by 5 shots with an overall score of 32 to 27. Top rink was Wendy Mannix (her first Ladies Match), Sharon Heafey and Jill Brooks with a score of 19 - 10. The other rink, consisting of Philippa Feltham, Jan Sargeant and Pauline Holmes, were losing up until the 16th end when they equalled the score but unfortunately dropped 4 shots on the last two ends. Well done ladies and thank you for your help in setting up for the match.’
Roger Blackburn captained the game in Watlington on Sunday 4th May. ‘We had a very warm welcome from Watlington and a good win against a strong Watlington side. The final Score 92 points to Thame and 77 to Watlington.
The win was four games to Thame and one to Watlington, but three of them were very close, two being only 1 point difference and one with 2 points difference.
There were two strong contenders for the top rink with Jesse Matthews, Phillipa Feltham and Keith Brooks score 23 to 19, but the biggest point difference was Roger Blackburn, Jill Brooks and Jan Sargeant score 21 to 12.’
