Thame Ladies beat a useful Watlington side in very hot conditions on Tuesday 9 August in a game that was reduced to 15 ends. The final score was 46 – 29 and the best rink played by Gini Williams, Deidre Page and skip Maire Duncan (23 – 8). The Ladies were also to play in the semi-final of the County Top Club competition away at South Oxford on 14 August, but this match has been postponed in view of the tropical conditions.
The game against Tring on Saturday 13 August was cut to 15 ends and played under sunny skies with the temperature in the shade 34C or 93F but the problem was, there was no shade! At the halfway stage we were neck and neck but the players from Tring enjoyed the conditions better than us and ran out winners by 52 shots to 42. Rink 4 was the coolest for Thame with Terri Blackburn, Norman Hyde and skip Ray Plested running out as the highest rink by far winning by 19 shots to 7. Rink 5 did well too with Keith Brooks, Ian Griffiths and skip David Holland only losing by 1 shot after dropping 2 on the last end.
The Sunday match against South Oxford was cancelled because of the weather conditions through health and safety grounds.
