Thame Bowls Club weekly newsletter 11

Thame Ladies Top Club match against a combined Kidlington and Woodstock ladies was conceded by the opposition who were unable to get out a team for the day. This means that Thame go through to the semi-finals and will play South Oxford away on 14 August. They did get a chance to play on Tuesday 5 July however and came out convincing winners against Watlington by 67 shots to 28. The best rink was played by Gini Williams, Jan Sargent and skip Marion Keal who won by 30 shots to 9.

The Men’ League team bounced back from four straight defeats with a one-shot victory over Bicester 64 – 63 which gave them 4 league points and moved them up to 5th overall. Bill Giles’ team result 22 – 13 narrowly beat Ray Plested’s team result of 17 – 10 but all four rinks performed well.

Thame visited Maidenhead Town on Saturday 9th July and both the weather, and the competition were very hot. The lead changed hands numerous times during the 18 ends and great credit to Bill Giles, Sandra and Colin French who came back from 1 -12 down to just lose narrowly by 14 – 16.

The win for Thame was secured over the final 2 ends with a final score 74 -67 and the winning rink was led by Diane Mackriell (in only her second game) ably assisted by Geoff Roynon and skip Ray Plested. It was great to see Sandra and Diane playing so well in only their second club match.

Well done to all the team.
