It is my very sad duty to let you know that Ron Slater died over the weekend.
Ron spent a great deal of time running the club and it was like a second home to him. He was at one time both the Club Captain, Chairman and President for which he was made a Life Member; he was also the Green Keeper.
Ron was a very competitive and accomplished bowler who proudly represented the County of Oxfordshire, who, at the end of every game would remember shots made, ends won or lost!
In his life before bowls he was a salesman for Haynes Garage in Thame; he owned the BMW Motor Cycle shop at the Three Pigeons and was landlord of the Nag's Head.
A keen cricketer and an avid supporter of Oxford United, a season ticket holder who travelled away with them until ill health prevented it.
Ron would have been 97 in June, led life to the full and will be sadly missed.
I will let everyone know of the funeral arrangements in due course and any other tributes that may be planned to celebrate Ron's long and happy life,
Bill Giles OBE
Chairman, Thame Bowls Club
