Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 2/2026
Friday May 1st
Princes Risborough ladies were very short of ladies, so only two triples were played on Friday on a hot afternoon at their green. Rink 3, consisting of Wendy Mannix, Deirdre Page and Jenny Reed, enjoying her position as skip, got off to an early lead and winning was never in doubt. There was some good bowling from all the ladies, and they deserved their solid 25 to 12 win.
Rink 2 with Jan Sargeant, Heather Hallchurch and Pauline Holmes were slow to score, and it took a score of six on the fifth end to put them in the lead. Things improved from thereon with some focused bowling from all three ladies. Their final score was a 33 to 10 win.
Everyone enjoyed playing and this has been a very good start to what we hope will be a successful season. Well done ladies!

We had a 6-rink match at South Oxford, and the weather was good to us as the first drops of rain waited until the end of the match.
Of the 6 rinks we won 2 drew 1 and lost 3, and the overall score was Thame 77 South Oxford 118. Our highest rink was rink 6, John Wilkinson, Sandra French, and Phil Reed 21 shots to 12. Thanks to all members who attended.

On Monday May 4th six of our ladies, Philippa Feltham, Heather Hallchurch, Deirdre Page, Wendy Mannix, Sandra French and Pauline Holmes, went to Oxford City and County to take part in a fun fundraising roll up.
The format was that everyone was randomly paired with someone they didn’t know. Each pair played six ends of Australian Pairs, then moved rinks- winners to the right and losers to the left. Three sets of APs were played then the points were added up, there being three points for a win and two for a draw.
Several pairs had three wins, so it came down to point difference. Most of us had mixed fortunes but Heather Hallchurch and her partner were runners up. Well done, Heather! An enjoyable day was had by all - rounded off by tea and cake.
