Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 14
Thame’s men have had a difficult season in Division 3, only winning two matches so far and picking up 15 points from the eight games played. They went down 65 – 70 against Burford on Thursday 10th July with two winning rinks (skipped by Chris Shannon and Adrian Wilcox) and then beat Woodstock 62 – 51 on 17th July with three winning rinks. The best performance was by Geoff Roynon, Dave Holland, Bill Giles and skip David White who won 20 – 11. They will be away at Charlbury on Thursday 24th July (see below).
Roger Blackburn stood in for Colin French, the midweek captain against a depleted Didcot side who could only manage 3 triples on Wednesday 23rd July. They were very grateful to us for accommodating just the 3 triples as they are struggling with bowlers to come away on weekdays. The rain kept threatening but held off for the duration of the game which was a good win for Thame with three winning rinks. The winning top rink was John Wilkinson, Mike Zak and Tony Battaglia. The other two rinks both won by 5 points.
The Men’s League game against Charlbury away finished with a win for Charlbury who picked up 5 league points to Thame’s 1. The only winning rink for Thame was played by Phil Reed, Dave Holland, Bill Giles and skip David White.
The match against Abingdon due to be played on Sunday 27th July was cancelled by the opposition as they have insufficient players. An interclub friendly game was arranged instead.
