Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 18
The ladies played 4 triples at home against Aylesbury Town on a sunny and breezy afternoon on Tuesday 20th August. Even though we won on 3 of the rinks it didn’t reflect on the overall score of Thame 63 and Aylesbury 65. The winning rink was Diane Mackriell, Gini Williams and skip Heather Hallchurch with a score of 18 - 4. The other 2 winning rinks both won by 1 shot. A very enjoyable and friendly game and the green was in excellent condition.
We played our annual match of Ladies v Gents on Sponsors Day, Friday 23rd August, on a lovely summer evening and on an immaculate green. The teams consisted of 17 Ladies (plus 1 gent) captained by Jill Brooks and 18 Gents captained by John Rawson. Play was 6 rinks of triples with 12 ends. Unfortunately, the ladies were not able to produce a win over the men as in 2023. The overall score was Gents 70 Ladies 48. The ladies won on 2 rinks and the winning rink was Philippa Feltham, Jan Baker and skip Jill Brooks. The men’s winning rink was Ken King, Ken Lewis and skip David Hickman. Thank you to Peter Hughes who stepped in to play for the ladies! Afterwards we enjoyed a buffet with our sponsors and spectators. Special thanks to Barry Green for organising the food etc, (while his wife Jo was enjoying a weekend away). Thanks also to the bar staff and all the helpers.
The games against Chessvale on 22nd August and Aylesbury Town on 24th August were both cancelled (Chessvale were unable to field a team and Aylesbury because of very wet weather).
