Thame Bowls Club Weekly News Report No 13
The men’s League Team at Thame were completely outclassed by Adderbury on Thursday, 11th July losing by 28 shots to 122. They took the 6 league points on offer and cemented their position of league leaders, whilst Thame dropped to sixth. Thame’s best rink was played by Geoff Roynon, Barry Green, Melv Warner and skip David White who lost by only 8 shots.
The ladies went to Oxford City & County in the morning of Sunday 14th July, to play in the 1/4 final of the County Top Club. The outcome was 3 disciplines to City & County and 1 discipline to Thame, which consisted of Jan Sargeant, Jill Brooks and skip Caroline Walker with a score of 21 to 10. At least the weather was warm and dry! Captain Jill Brooks said, ‘Our hosts were very hospitable, and an enjoyable game was had by all’.
On Monday 15th July, the ladies arrived at Hazells on a grey, dull afternoon. Soon after arriving it started to pour with rain, so it was decided by both teams not to play bowls as the forecast was heavy rain for the rest of the day. Instead of us going straight home, the Ladies’ at Hazells, kindly offered us tea and cake, (how could we refuse that offer!) so we sat under cover outside and enjoyed the refreshments and a chat for an hour or so…which was almost as good as playing bowls in the rain!!! So, no winners or losers. We agreed to try and arrange another match, weather permitting, on a mutually convenient date, probably at Thame.
Thame Men’s League team took on bottom of the table, Woodstock on Thursday 18th July and ran out winners by 76 shots to 58. This gave them 5 points and they moved up to 5th position. Thame’s best rink was played by Vic Webb, Keith Brooks, John Rawson and skip Ian Rutherford who won 18 – 9.
