The Ladies verses Gents annual match took place on Friday 2 September when we share the day with our Sponsors who advertise their services on the boards around our green. This year the Gents, captained by Ron Duncan. came out winners by 81 shots to 53 with Keith Brooks, Barry Green and skip Ray Plested the top winning rink, who received a lottery ticket each for their endeavours whilst Jill Brooks, the Ladies captain, was gifted with some chocolates. Although the Ladies lost, they had two rinks who only lost by one shot. Jill Brooks’ team with Irene Park and Ann Ashfield were winning 11 to 8 but dropped 4 shots on the last end. After the game everyone was invited to a snack which was supplied by the bakers in Chinnor and ably assisted by Jane Kimber who cooked us up a delightful finger buffet.

President’s Day was held on Saturday 3rd September having been postponed from the original date in July due to the hot weather. There were 8 teams of 4 bowlers divided into two groups so that each team played 3 matches at the group stage. Each game comprised of 5 ends and the winning team from each group then played each other in the final of 6 ends.
The team members in the final were:
Chris Shannon (Skip), Pat Munday, Alison Wilkinson and Steve Silver
Bill Giles (Skip) , Byron Harvey , Gini Williams and Heather Hallchurch .
After 6 ends the game was tied at 4 all so an extra end was played which Chris Shannon’s team narrowly won. Congratulations!
In addition to the bowling, bacon and sausage rolls were provided at lunchtime and tea and cakes during the afternoon. My thanks to everyone who contributed to making a really enjoyable day which I am sure everyone enjoyed.
A donation was made from President’s Day towards the cost of the new bowls wheelchair.

On 6 September the skip's course initiated this year has had its first success when Roger Blackburn skipped with Maire Duncan and Heather Hallchurch to be the highest winning rink by 16 shots to 9 as Thame Bowls Club beat Amersham 74 shots to 67. The game was played in the traditions of Lawn Bowls and a great afternoon was had by all. The Amersham club were delighted with our new clubhouse and are now, hopefully, planning to do the same. My thanks go to all who played and especially to June Greene, Keith Brooks, John Hurley, Peter Southam, Alfred Jochum and Marion Keal for making up the full 6 rinks.
