2025 Friday League
The Friday League enjoyed a hot and sunny summer, possibly the hottest since records began.
80 members took part in 12 teams playing 10 ends of triples with each winner on the night receiving 3 points, a draw 2 points, a loss 1 point with an added bonus point for scoring 15 shots or more. The competition was very intense but team B consisting of Gordon Taylor, Caroline Walker, Chris Trainer, Gini Williams, Jackie Emberson and Mike Zakaszewski came out winners on 30 points.
After games everyone, including the large number of spectators, came to the clubhouse to enjoy a light meal of sausages or bacon in a roll, the rolls kindly donated by Cornfield Bakery, Thame, and to refresh themselves from the well stocked bar admirably run by Philip and his bar staff. My thanks also go to Jo who organised the kitchen staff who worked tirelessly in the hot conditions cooking the sausages which Peter had so skillfully organised for us. Maire and Ron did a tremendous job in keeping us all in order and collating the results. The finale of the evening was the wonderful draw run by Byron and Chris. The draw consists of numbered squares which members pay £1 per square and put their names in it (some had as many as 5 squares). The draw then took place and half the takings were given as prize money, which on occasions amounted to £70, with the other half given to our treasurer, Ian, to his great delight. With up to 70 members in the club on those evenings conversation was hectic and it went to show why Thame Bowls Club is known as The Happy Club.
Many thanks to everyone, players and spectators, who made it such a success and I know we all look forward to early June 2026 when the Friday League starts again
