Match Reports

Thame Bowls Club Weekly Newsletter No 4

On Sunday 11th May, Thame Bowls Club welcomed Winslow to Chiltern Grove. A defeat of 3 - 1 sounds bad but three of the games were very close with a final score of 49 - 67 (that’s' only 18 points over 72 ends).   The winning and highest rink was Sharon Heafey, David White and Roger Blackburn, who sneaked a win of 18 - 16 and it went down to the last leg. Winslow had some individually very good players that were spread among the teams which certainly swung the match in their favour. The match was played in great spirit on a glorious afternoon, and all players enjoyed the match. Captain Roger Blackburn.

The ladies travelled to Hazells on Monday 12th with 3 triples. We had just one short shower when we had to stop playing for about 5 minutes. There were dark clouds, thunder and lightning all around us…but luckily no more rain. Hazells green has improved greatly and was in good condition. Thame won on 2 rinks with an overall score of 51 - 36, our top rink was Wendy Mannix, Pauline Holmes and skip Heather Hallchurch with a score of 24 - 7. Our other winning rink was Jenny Reed, Gini Williams and Jill Brooks. An enjoyable afternoon. Well done ladies. Captain Jill Brooks.

The ladies also had a match scheduled for Thursday 15th May (that had been rearranged from an earlier date by South Oxford) but they were unfortunately again unable to raise a team. Thame have offered another date and will wait and see.

Thame Men opened their League campaign on Thursday 15th May with an away fixture against Carterton B. They suffered a heavy defeat by 87 shots to 50 but they had one winning rink played by Vic Webb, Phil Reed, Melvyn Warner and skip David White who finished 19 – 15. The next match will be at home to Burford on Thursday 22nd May.
